HANDLING LINES SEMINAR – Saturday, November 30, 3:005:00 pm

Everyone initially thinks about an agility course in terms of the OBSTACLES. It’s very natural, particularly when you have a young dog. However, the goal of this seminar is to change the way you look at walking a course.

How can you learn that?

  • Start to visualize the line of the dog BETWEEN obstacles
  • Remember that every handling move is designed to change the dog’s line
  • Learn to see what shape of a jumping line the different handling choices create for your dog
  • Think ONLY about what happens between the obstacles

How to apply this thinking when walking a course?

  • Visualize the critical points where a dog’s line needs to be changed
  • Based on the shape of the new line, choose the best handling move to cause that shape
  • Learning a handling move is a mechanical exercise, you will get better by practicing the handling move when you walk the course
  • Commit to this handling choice when you run your dog (don’t just do anything!)

How can this help me?

  • You will now get better at gamblers or FAST because you can visualize how the dog will move
  • No more off courses!!
  • It becomes much easier to decide what handler moves to do at tricky places.
  • This seminar will also help in your distance training – when you understand the dog’s line and can still support the line from a distance.
Red lines: Possible lines, if you handle obstacles, not lines and you handle jump number 2 with a post turn.
  • For: Levels novice/intermediate, and excellent/master levels wanting to improve their Gamblers or Fast.
  • Location: 103 Haverhill St., Rowley MA
  • Class size: 7 teams
  • Cost:
    Working spot: $70
    Auditing spot: $35
